A crumbling building and a technology shortage hamper Anchorage's main library
By Sean Doogan, Alaska Dispatch
Libraries across the country are facing a dilemma: How to stay relevant in an ever-changing technology-based world? With information that used to be found only in the dusty stacks of a local public library now readily available over the Internet, libraries are increasingly focusing on becoming “community centers” instead of just a warehouse for books.

Yahoo! Budget Increase for the Library.
We did it! Thanks to your support, the Anchorage Assembly increased the Library's budget by $260K for technology and materials.
This will help the Library improve technology and educational opportunities in support of initiatives like 90% by 2020 and Live Work Play.
They also increased the Municipality's state capital request for the Loussac Entrance Renovation to $10M. This money, along with a bond next spring, would allow the Library to begin the project by spring 2015. We're now one step closer to making that happen.
We thank the Assembly for their strong show of support! You can send them a thank you message at firstname.lastname@example.org
Early Literacy Space at Loussac a Success!
The new space offers a fun and age-appropriate approach for families to learn and encourage early literacy skills in their babies and toddlers. The space is part of the wildly successful Ready to Read Resource Center and opened to much fanfare on Oct. 22. We are happy to report that the kids love it!
