Why do we need a foundation for a tax-supported institution?
The Anchorage Public Library is a department of the Municipality of Anchorage, which provides funding for staff, collections, facilities, and operating expenses.
As the Library continues to expand its service to the community, the Library Foundation partners with the private sector to secure funds to support programs and resources above and beyond what is included in the city budget. Past successes include: new libraries in Girdwood, Muldoon, Mountain View and Chugiak-Eagle River, technology upgrades, and upgrades to the Samson-Dimond and Loussac Libraries.
