About Us

Our Mission

A separate entity from the Library, the Anchorage Library Foundation exists to secure private support for the long-term financial needs of the Anchorage Public Library. Distributions are made to increase the library collections, for selected capital improvements, to expand library services, and to promote greater awareness of the library's valuable resources.

The Anchorage Library Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. Tax I.D. #92-0081583

Why do we need a foundation for a tax-supported institution?

The Anchorage Public Library is a department of the Municipality of Anchorage, which provides funding for staff, collections, facilities, and operating expenses.

As the Library continues to expand its service to the community, the Library Foundation partners with the private sector to secure funds to support programs and resources not included in the city budget. Among these are: new libraries in Girdwood, Muldoon, Mountain View and Chugiak-Eagle River, technology upgrades, and upgrades to the Samson-Dimond and Loussac Libraries.
