The Anchorage Public Library is a beloved institution: over 60% of residents have library cards, over 1.6 million items circulate annually and over 60,000 youth and adults participate in programs each year. APL consists of the main Z.J. Loussac Library and four branches spanning from Girdwood to Eagle River.
Recognizing that our Library is a transformational force in the lives of everyone in Anchorage—helping people find jobs, enhancing digital skills, supporting education, providing access to information, promoting early literacy and connecting communities—it is critical that we maintain and grow this great resource for the future health of our community.
Friends of the Library is a hands-on group of volunteers that works to support Anchorage Public Libraries, greatly enhancing the quality of life in our community.
In addition to the financial contributions to support the collection, staff and community-based programs, Friends resources enhance children’s programs such as: Storyteller Series, Reading Rendezvous, Lap-sit Bags, Summer Reading Celebration and Live @ the Library – the outdoor summer concert series with local musicians.
